Cricket Cuppers update

Queens' lost valiantly to Fitzwilliam by seven wickets, defending a lead of 131. Fitz have now won the competition three years in a row.

The champions of 1965 might be matched, at last, today when the Queens' Men's Cricket XI play in the Cuppers Final...at Fenners.

A member of the 1965 XI has promised a crate of champagne for the Queens' team if they win!

Yesterday, the XI won an epic semi-final against Pembroke, who needed 9 runs to win off the last over and Queens' kept them out, defending a total of 129 all out.

The Final is against Fitzwilliam College at 12pm. Ironically, the Queens' team is captained by Dan Corner and the Fitz team is led by his identical twin!

The College has been in at least two other Finals: in 1980 versus Catz (lost by 9 wickets) and in 1978, led by Giles Brown.

The semi-final team was: D Corner*, N Hope+, H Patel, E Barsley, P Patil, K Neville, S Dixon, l Masom, J Fossey, Z Mehmood, C Macintosh, N Alam.

The 1965 XI comprised:

  • Martin Wood, 1962 – Captain
  • Bob Chambers, 1962
  • Richard Peskin, 1962
  • Clive Kemp, 1962
  • Roger Maynard, 1962
  • Peter Souster, 1963
  • Nigel Armistead, 1963
  • Peter Stewart, 1963
