Queens’ alum selected for Turkey Europe Future Forum fellowship

Oliver Rieche
Oliver Rieche (LLM, 2013) has been awarded a highly competitive fellowship in Istanbul and is among only 10 Germans to be selected for this year’s Turkey Europe Future Forum.

Oliver is currently a trainee solicitor at Reed Smith, sitting in the Global Commercial Disputes group in London, and is co-chair of PRISM, Reed Smith’s LGBT+ inclusion group.

Since 2015, the Turkey Europe Future Forum has been bringing together dedicated young leaders from Turkey and Europe to benefit from an intensive exchange of ideas, substantial training measures and access to an important network. During the Future Forum, participants attend eight days of workshops, lectures and intercultural trainings on current issues and debate it from their country- and sector-specific perspectives. In addition, high-level guests, speakers and dialogue partners provide exclusive insights into the politics, economy, culture and society of the participating countries.

This year's Future Forum takes place from July 7-14 in Istanbul and Eskisehir under the title "Turkey and the EU: Overcoming Common Challenges and Bilateral Tensions". Participants will look at the current state of political, economic and social relations between Turkey and Europe and identify new ways for sustainable cooperation.

The goal of the Future Forum is to reinforce networking and enhance mutual understanding among future decision-makers of Turkey, Germany and other European countries. The programme encourages all actors to adopt a European perspective and strengthens their ability to act, especially across sectors.

Oliver said: “I’m honoured to attend this year’s Turkey Europe Future Forum. It’s a great opportunity to meet other young change-makers from around Europe and Turkey. In particular, I’m looking forward to be leading a workshop on LGBT+ rights in Europe and Turkey as part of a wider discussion on human rights issues in the region.”

The Turkey Europe Future Forum is a project of Stiftung Mercator in cooperation with TUSIAD, under the patronage of Federica Mogherini, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs.
