Queens' Access Roadshow 2019

Last month, four teams of Queens’ students set out on the annual Queens’ Access Roadshow, to talk to school students in Queens’ College’s four link areas (Kent, Medway, Havering Borough and Bradford). The Queens’ teams tell the school students about their experiences of study and life at Cambridge and encourage them to consider applying.

Over the course of one week, the teams, coordinated by our Access team Maria McElroy, Queens’ Schools Liaison Officer, and Hannah Thomson, Widening Participation Assistant, visited 57 state schools, speaking to more than 2200 students. This was the eighth annual Roadshow, an initiative conceived by Lewis MacDonald, JCR Access Officer in 2011.

Queens’ pioneering approach to outreach work has proven to be successful in the past. We are the only College to employ a full-time member of staff outside Cambridge, in Bradford, and the fruits of this initiative were shown in the last admissions round, with a 50% increase in applications from Bradford, many of which resulted in an offer being made.

If any Fellows, students or staff have news items they would like to be featured on the College website, please send them to the Development Officer (Communications)
