Mayfield Primary School Visit

Queens' library was delighted to welcome back local year 3 pupils from Mayfield Primary School who came to delve into Tudor history outside their classroom on Friday 22nd September. Dr Andrew Zurcher, a Queens' English fellow, extended a warm welcome in the Old Hall, setting the stage for a day filled with learning and exploration. Guided by Rare Books Curator, Emma Sibbald, and the library team, the children engaged enthusiastically in various activities to help them uncover the legacy of the Tudor period in the buildings and collections at Queens': from immersion in the Old Library's early printed books to the design of their own coat of arms inspired by the oriel windows. The pupils were especially impressed by the Old Library's tiniest book: the palm-sized Institutio Christiana, but some were disappointed the War Memorial Library did not hold many children's books.
