Provisional Information - General Admission 2021*

* please note that any arrangements are subject to change, depending on PHE restrictions applicable at the time.

Degree Congregations are held at the Senate House, also known as the Regent House, on various dates throughout the year. The Congregation of the Senate House is one of the oldest traditions in the University and its origins can be traced back some 800 years.

General Admission for Queens’ students receiving any of the following degrees is Thursday, 1 July 2021: MMath, MEng, MSci, VetMB, BA, and BTh Degrees.

Your degree will not be officially awarded to you until you have participated in the annual Congregation of the Senate House, either in person or in absence. Your degree certificate will only be issued once your degree has been conferred.  Registration for the Congregation is available now via your CamSIS Self-Service page.  Please refer to the ‘Registration’ section below for further information.

Graduands with outstanding College or University bills may not be permitted to graduate in person.

If you choose to receive your degree in person, you will be invited to attend the following functions: Praelector's Address, Senate House Ceremony and Graduation refreshments.

All the information you need is available on this website via the links listed below. It is very important that you read the information and then book the services you require in good time (i.e., academic dress hire and portrait photography).

The Praelector’s Address this year is available via this link. It is essential that all graduands view the Praelector’s Address before Degree Day, since it provides important instructions relating to the graduation ceremony.

All graduands leave the College together and process to the Senate House.

After the graduation ceremony on Thursday 1 July 2021, drinks and boxed lunches will be available in the marquee on the Erasmus Lawn.

Academic Dress

It is possible to hire academic robes from several tailors in Cambridge. Ede & Ravenscroft  have an on-line service (which is now open) and will deliver to College on Wednesday 30 June for your collection between 1pm and 4pm in the Angevin Room. It is recommended that you collect your order in good time. Please return it to the Angevin Room and place it in the baskets before 5pm on Thursday. You are, of course, free to make alternative arrangements if you wish. Remember that you must be in full academic dress for the Degree Photograph at 11.45am on the Thursday, so it is essential that you take possession of all hired items on the Wednesday. Please check this link for further details on dress code.

Lafayette Photography will take a group photograph at 11.15am on Thursday 1 July in Walnut Tree Court. Copies of this photograph will be on sale from the Porters' Lodge later in the day.  Lafayette photographers will also be available to take your Graduation Day Portraits in Old Court between 09.00 and 10.45am.  Please book early to avoid disappointment through this link.

If you graduate in person, your photograph will be taken at the moment your degree is conferred.  Senate House photography will be posted online within seven days.

Please note that it is not permitted to take photographs while inside the Senate House.
