This course offers you the chance to master a major modern language alongside the scientific study of linguistics.
The first 2 years of the course are spent in Cambridge. You’ll spend your third year abroad, immersing yourself in the language you are studying, before returning to Cambridge for the fourth year.

The LML community at Queens’ includes a dedicated in-house Director of Studies for each side of the course, including for French and Spanish; plus assistant Directors of Studies in German, Italian, and Russian, and a good number of undergraduate and postgraduate students studying Linguistics, Modern and Medieval Languages, or History and Modern Languages.
In both Linguistics and Modern and Medieval Languages, our Directors of Studies work closely with individual students throughout their degree to help them get the most out of their studies; close coordination between the two areas is very well established at Queens’. On both sides of the course, in addition to their regular small-group supervisions, Queens’ students receive dedicated in-house training sessions and reading groups on key methodological and theoretical topics, along with study skills support sessions. Students also have the opportunity to participate in international conferences and workshops organised at the College.
