Human, Social, and Political Sciences (HSPS) is a flexible course including politics and international relations, social anthropology and sociology. You can specialise in one or two of these, but the structure of the course also enables exploration of a variety of subjects in the first year, meaning the course is well suited both to those with specific subject interests, and to those looking for a multidisciplinary degree.
Information about the course structure, departmental teaching arrangements, offered topics and options can be found on the University of Cambridge website: Human, Social, and Political Sciences Course Outline
You can study a range of different subjects in the first year which gives you time to decide what you want to specialise in for the second and third years.
Rosa
Queens’ has a strong reputation in the constituent subjects of HSPS. It has particular strengths in Sociology and Politics and International Relations, with recent Part II (second and third year) students going on to win both College and University prizes.
A typical workload over a two-week period in the first year for a HSPS student is 16 hours of lectures and three essays for supervisions. Students are expected to work hard, but the College also works hard to support them as they do so.
