Course Details

The History course at Cambridge covers every period of history from the most ancient to the most modern and ranges geographically from Britain, Ireland and the continent of Europe to America, Africa and Asia. Cambridge has long enjoyed a distinguished reputation in the field of political history and it also played a leading role in the development of social and economic history. More recently it has become a major centre for the study of intellectual history. The course is designed to enable students to develop their own special interests throughout the degree.

Community is central to studying History and the History joint degrees at Queens’. Academic staff take a keen interest in students’ progress and wellbeing and students are encouraged to support and learn from one another too. Queens’ has a thriving college history society, the Erasmus Society, which meets several times a term to listen to talks by historians and for social events.

From the first year onwards there are also classes and events to help with the transition from school to university, to support students’ learning and develop their study skills, and to encourage discussion and debate about major themes in History.

The historians at Queens’ are so friendly and welcoming which makes studying History here a lot of fun. We also have a history society which hosts lots of interesting speakers as well as socials to get to know each other.
