Professor Ella McPherson, BA (Princeton), MPhil, PhD (Cantab) Anthony L. Lyster Fellow in Sociology. Director of Studies in Human, Social & Political Sciences (Part I)

Research

My research is concerned with symbolic struggles surrounding media and technology in times of transition. One strand of my research is about human rights fact-finding in the digital age, a case study for understanding how truth-claims are created, evaluated and contested, and who speaks and hears them. Another is on individual and community resistance to new technologies. My research has been funded by the ESRC, an EU Research and Innovation Horizon 2020 grant, and the Gates Cambridge Trust.

Department

I am Professor of the Sociology of Media and Technology and am Co-Director of the Centre of Governance and Human Rights.
