The Queens’ AI Scholarship, first available from October 2026, will support one talented student reading for an AI-related MPhil at the University of Cambridge per year.

Generously funded by Queens’ alum, Jan Metzger (1995), the scholarship will cover the full fees for a home student, or £25,000 of fees for an overseas student.

Jan began a voice recognition start-up with some friends during his time at Queens’ (TEDx Talk linked below) which kickstarted his interested in AI. After leaving Queens’, Jan began his career as a software engineer continuing to explore how AI can be used within voice recognition, becoming CTO of the start-up.  He is now Head of Corporate and Investment Banking – APAC at Citigroup with over 25 years experience in investment banking but still regularly advises CEOs and boards on how to embrace AI to stay ahead of the curve. We are delighted that Jan has chosen to inspire Queens’ students to follow in his footsteps through this scholarship.
