The Endowment

One of the College’s most valuable financial assets is its Endowment, a carefully managed, low-risk investment portfolio that provides an annual distribution to the College. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and careful financial stewardship by the Investments Committee, the Endowment has grown by 37% since 2020 and now sits at just under £128 million. Nonetheless, our Endowment remains modest compared to other Oxbridge Colleges of a similar size.

The power of philanthropy

To put it into perspective, a 3% return on £128 million generates £3.84 million annually, which covers only a fraction of our operating costs. In 2024, Queens’ subsidised accommodation, conference, and catering activities by £2.3 million, while the Education Account showed a gross deficit of nearly £4 million. Without support from our alumni and friends, preserving the unique Queens’ student experience would be an immense challenge.

Fortunately, the Queens’ community continues to step up. In the 2023-24 financial year alone,
an extraordinary £10.1 million was raised, including a transformative gift for the renovation
of the Erasmus Building. This remarkable figure places Queens’ among the top five Cambridge Colleges for philanthropic income, which is a testament to the loyalty, generosity, and passion of our alumni community.

We are immensely grateful for this continued support. Every gift, no matter the size, has a direct impact on College life, from funding scholarships and research to preserving our historic spaces for future generations. If you would like to help Queens’ by giving to The Endowment you can do so here or by emailing development@queens.ac.uk.
