Telephone Campaign 2016

From the day that you matriculate you become a Member of Queens’. The Annual Telephone Fundraising Programme is an important way for the College to foster that life-long relationship. Calls from students are not only intended to encourage you to make or renew a gift to Queens’, but also to update you about what the College is doing and to invite you to events. In addition, a call can be an opportunity for you as a Member to offer your thoughts and ask questions about Queens’.

From Monday 12th September to Wednesday 28th September inclusive, 14 current Queens’ students will be calling members of College and friends to ask for support. The generous gifts our alumni pledge provide significant support for the College. Our main funding priorities are:

  1. The supervision system - employing world class academics to teach our students
  2. The endowment - to support all areas of College life
  3. Student support - we want the best and brightest to come here as undergrads and postgrads, irrespective of background or the ability to pay

Find out more about how to give to Queens' College.

Every donation you make contributes directly to the work of the College and every donation, however large or small, is important to us. By donating to this College you are helping to ensure the future of Queens’ for generations of graduates and undergraduates to come. Every donation counts and is hugely appreciated by the President, Fellows and students at Queens'.

Our Queens’ student callers look forward to talking to as many of you as they can. You can meet a few of them here:

My name is Emma, and I am in my final year of reading English at Queens’ College, Cambridge. My favourite author is Thomas Hardy, and I am planning to do one of my final year dissertations on the role of women in his novels. In my spare time I enjoy drawing; I run my own cartoon blog, and draw commissions of buildings – particularly the colleges of Cambridge!

Celia: I have recently graduated from Queens’, having spent a happy 3 years juggling my various JCR responsibilities with a theology and religious studies degree. I am currently looking into a future career at the bar amongst other things. In addition, my personal interests fuel my desire to work in advocacy, policy, campaigning and other parts of the third sector in both voluntary and paid capacities.

Daniel: I grew up in Cambridge and am a third year History student at Queens’. This year, I'm researching Winston Churchill for a dissertation and am also taking papers in Russian and Spanish history. I also act as a Queens’ College ‘subject contact’, providing support and advice for History students in years below. I recently appeared on television as part of the team representing Queens’ College on University Challenge, and am also an active member of the Cambridge University Quiz Society. In my spare time, I enjoy playing cricket and squash, and also held the position of Principal French Horn in the Cambridge University Concert Orchestra. Furthermore, I frequently attend lectures and debates thanks to my membership of the Cambridge Union and Cambridge Law Society.

Hi, I’m Charlie and I’m about to start my third year of studying Earth Sciences at Queens’. I’ve just spent the summer completing a six-week mapping project in the Stockholm archipelago, after which I went hiking in the Norwegian Lofoten Islands. Since coming to Cambridge I’ve developed a passion for film photography, so my room in college has become increasingly plastered with prints. Hopefully my summer travels will have produced some great photos to add to the collection.

I’m Lucy, and am going into my final year studying English here at Queens’. As well as throwing myself into college life as a college parent, subject contact, and active member of our informal LGBT society, I’ll often be found at the ADC (our student theatre) performing on stage as a part of CUMTS, the Cambridge Musical Theatre Society. I am also involved in MagSoc within college, as both a vocalist and a flautist, and have even tried my hand at college sport once in a blue moon (although not too successfully...). '

Hi, I'm Jess! I've just finished my BA in Theology and Religious Studies and I'm about to start a Masters at the Judge Business School which will be my fourth year at Queens'. Over the last three years some of my favourite memories have been the 2015 May Ball, 'blading' in my first year rowing and seeing the rise and triumph of the Ladies Football team. I've also been involved with the JCR, finishing my time as JCR President last March. I've loved being at Queens' over the last three years and I'm looking forward to, what will hopefully be, a great final year here.

Bobby He: I'm an incoming final year Mathmo focusing on applied and applicable maths. Away from all that I enjoy playing football for QCAFC and playing the violin for CUMSSO and MagSoc. I'm also the President of our Maths Society, QMS, and will be taking a Productions role on the May Ball Committee 2017.

Caroline: I'm an English Literature student from East Yorkshire about to start my second year at Queens'. Outside of my course, I enjoy taking part in student drama, radio and music, and can be found busking in the holidays. My career ambitions are uncertain as yet, but I'm interested in media, communication and creative industries.

My name is Clara, and I’ve just finished my BA in Human, Social and Political Sciences – the most recent incarnation of PPS or SPS. During my time at Queens’ I participated in several plays, wrote for student newspapers, and, naturally, attended weekend brunch religiously! I’ve absolutely loved my time here, and am happy to get to come back for a few weeks to help with the Telephone Campaign. At the end of October, I’m going to be starting on the Department for International Development’s Graduate Scheme, in the Middle East and North Africa Division. I’m looking forward to exploring a career in policy, and to see what awaits outside the Cambridge bubble!

Charlie: Hi, I'm Charlie from Colchester, on the Essex-Suffolk border. I matriculated in October 2015 and am about to commence my second year at Queens', studying Social and Biological Anthropology as part of the Human, Social and Political Sciences tripos. I'm a keen musician playing in both Magsoc and the CUMS Concert Orchestra and am also a member of QCBC, rowing in Lent and May bumps last year.
