Marlowe Road

The College owns four one-bedroom flats at Marlowe Road in Newnham village just half a mile from the central college site. The flats are at the following locations:

19 Marlowe Road (Upper and Lower flats), Cambridge, CB3 9JW

35 Marlowe Road (Upper and Lower flats), Cambridge, CB3 9JW

The accommodation is suitable for couples without children. Ground floor flats have a garden area for which gardening equipment is provided.

A flat usually comprises a double bedroom, lounge and kitchen areas and a bathroom with WC. Each flat is furnished slightly differently however the following items are typically provided; a double bed, wardrobes, chest of drawers, bedside table, bedside lamp, desk, office chair, study lamp, easy chairs, oven, fridge/freezer, dining table and chairs. A variety of kitchen utensils and equipment is also provided. Bedding is not provided, however details of how to purchase a bedding pack will be sent to all students who are offered couples accommodation.

The charge for a flat at Marlowe Road for the 2011/12 academic year will be approx £1833 for three months. Gas, electricity and water charges are not included in the charge. Each quarter an advanced charge will be made for utilities. At the end of the quarter this will be refunded and the actual cost, as calculated from the utility meter readings, will be charged. Further information is available in the document "Schedule of Fees and Charges to Members". No rent reductions will normally be given for absences from Cambridge during vacations or owing to coursework thus College owned flats are most suitable for students who intend to remain in Cambridge throughout the academic year.

The NTL Centrex CU2 telephone service is provided. The telephone account is held by the College (not by the residents), and the socket is permanently active. Telephone rental charges are included in the rent of the flat, and call charges are passed on to the residents by the College. It may be necessary for the resident to provide a telephone instrument to plug into the telephone socket (depending on the generosity of former residents). There is no College-supplied internet service but students may apply to the University for the Magpie dial-up service or to Virgin Media for Broadband service.

Residents may park at nearby Owlstone Croft subject to obtaining a parking permit. Residents should contact the Head Porter for further details.

Students are responsible for ensuring any problems which may arise with the furnishings or fixtures within the flat are promptly reported to the appropriate college department. For building maintenance please contact maintenance@queens.cam.ac.uk and for furnishings and cleaning supplies contact housekeeping@queens.cam.ac.uk.

On arrival, keys should be collected from the Porters' Lodge on the main Queens' College site in Silver Street and must be returned to the Porters' Lodge at the end of residence.
