Accessibility

At Queens' Library we want to help every student to access and use our Library. Please see below for some ways we can make things easier, or if you'd like to discuss a more tailored approach, please get in touch.

Services we can provide

Here are some of the services we can provide you with to ensure you are able to get the most out of your time at Queens':

  • Book fetching - we can fetch books from the shelves and reserve them for you.
  • 1-2-1 inductions - we can provide personalised inductions to ease any anxiety and allow you to become familiar with the Library space.
  • Click and collect - we can fetch books from the shelves and issue them to your account for collection.
  • Extended loans - if you are registered with the DRC, we can upgrade your account so you get 28 day loans instead of 14 days.
  • Scan and deliver - we can scan books for you (either one chapter or 5% of pages, whichever is greater) if they are not provided on your reading lists or via Moodle.
  • Proxy borrowing - if you need another person to borrow books on your behalf, we can set that up on your account.

If you wish you use any of these services, or if there is something we can help you with that is not listed, please contact us and we'll be happy to help.

Other services in Cambridge

If you are a Cambridge student with a disability, it's a good idea to get in touch with the Accessibility & Disability Resource Centre (ADRC). They will help you to ensure your support requirements are met by your college, department and the University at large. They also have much more information about the support that is available across the University. You can visit their website for more information, or contact them on disability@admin.cam.ac.uk.

Getting all the resources for your course is vital, and Cambridge Libraries are here to help. The Cambridge Libraries Accessibility Service has information about alternative formats, assistive technology and much more, and you can contact them for assistance with anything from accessing library spaces to getting hold of readings that aren't available in your preferred format: disability@lib.cam.ac.uk.

There are plenty of other services to support both your physical and mental health, such as Student Wellbeing and the University Counselling Service. At Queens' we are also lucky to have a dedicated Welfare Team who are here to support you throughout your time at the college.

If there is anything else you feel you need during your time at Queens', please don't hesitate to get in touch.
