Information - General Admission 2024

Degree Congregations are held at the Senate House, also known as the Regent House, on various dates throughout the year. The Congregation of the Senate House is one of the oldest traditions in the University and its origins can be traced back some 800 years.

General Admission for Queens’ students receiving any of the following degrees is Thursday, 27 June 2024: MMath, MEng, MSci, VetMB, BA, and BTh Degrees.

Your degree will not be officially awarded to you until you have participated in the annual Congregation of the Senate House, either in person or in absence. Your degree certificate will only be issued once your degree has been conferred.  Registration for the Congregation is available now via your CamSIS Self-Service page.  Please refer to the ‘Registration’ section below for further information.

Graduands with outstanding College or University bills may not be permitted to graduate in person.

If you choose to receive your degree in person, you will be invited to attend the following functions: Praelector's Address, Senate House Ceremony and Graduation refreshments.

All the information you need is available on this website via the links listed below. It is very important that you read the information and then book the services you require in good time (i.e., academic dress hire and portrait photography).

The Praelector’s Address to graduands will be held on the evening of Wednesday 26 June 2024. It is essential that all graduands attend the Praelector’s Address , since the Praelector will use this occasion to give important instructions relating to the following day's ceremony.  The Tutors' reception for graduands follows the address.

All graduands leave the College together and process to the Senate House.

After the graduation ceremony on the Thursday, the Degree Day Buffet Lunch takes place for graduates and their guests (strictly a maximum of two guests for the buffet lunch).

Registration

Booking for degree day is made via your Camsis Self-Service page please select - 'Apply for Graduation'.  You can apply to have your degree awarded in person or in absence.  Registration is very simple and should only take a few minutes to complete.  Please note the deadline for registration is 8 May 2024.

Academic Dress

It is possible to hire academic robes from several tailors in Cambridge. Ede & Ravenscroft  have an on-line service (which is now open) and will deliver to College on Wednesday 26 June for your collection between 1pm and 4pm in the Angevin Room. It is recommended that you collect your order in good time. Please return it to the Angevin Room and place it in the baskets before 5pm on Thursday. You are, of course, free to make alternative arrangements if you wish. Remember that you must be in full academic dress for the Degree Photograph at 11.45am on the Thursday, so it is essential that you take possession of all hired items on the Wednesday. Please check this link for further details on dress code.

Rooms For Your Guests

Guest Rooms will be at the standard guest room rate of £50 for a single and £79 for a twin.  All charges include VAT and cafeteria breakfast.  Rooms are allocated on a first come first served basis and there is very little availability for nights after Degree Day.

Guest rooms must be vacated by 10.00 on the final day of the booking, with the exception of bookings finishing on Degree Day, which last throughout the day until 18.00.

Booking of rooms for overnight guests must be made in advance on the Guest Room Booking Form and returned to the Accommodation Officer by email: guestrooms@queens.cam.ac.uk.
