Postgraduates

Degree congregations are held at the Senate House on various dates throughout the year. The Congregation of the Regent House is one of the oldest traditions in the University and its origins can be traced back some 800 years.

Your degree will not be officially awarded to you until you have participated in a Congregation of the Regent House, either in person or in absence. Your degree certificate will only be issued once your degree has been conferred.

Graduands with outstanding College or University bills may not be permitted to graduate in person.

If you choose to receive your degree in person, you will be invited to attend a college Drinks Reception and Graduation Lunch prior to your ceremony. You will be a guest of the college at these events; you are also welcome to bring up to two guests..

You will need to book your lunch places and any dietary requirements when you register to receive your degree either via your Camsis self-service page (current graduate students), or ESS (previous graduate students). Payment for any additional guest lunches must be made at least two weeks before the congregation date.

The final timings for the day will be posted under ‘Timetable for the day’, listed in the above sidebar, approximately ten days before the ceremony. If you wish to enquire about the availability of guest room accommodation, you will need to contact the Accommodation Officer on rooms@queens.cam.ac.uk.

Congregation Dates

Please note Degree Congregations are opened up for registration around two/three months prior to the ceremony date. The deadline for registration is generally 14 days before the congregation date. Please do not make any travel arrangements until your registration is confirmed.

Registering for a Degree Congregation

Current Students

If you are a currently completing your final term of study, you will be able to register for a degree congregation via your CamSIS self-service page. The option to do so will appear in your ‘Things to do’ section.

Previous Students

If you have already been approved to receive your degree, you will need to register via CamSIS Extended self-service to have your degree conferred, in person or in absence.

To register for ESS you will need to input your CRSID and date of birth. If you have forgotten your CRSID please contact the Graduate Office on graduate.office@queens.cam.ac.uk. Once enabled you will be able to register for a graduation ceremony, order official transcripts and view unofficial transcripts.

Higher Degrees

Please contact the Graduate Administrator to arrange your presentation at a Degree Congregation of the Senate House.

Gowns may be ordered online (no later than 10 days before a degree ceremony) from Ede & Ravenscroft or Ryder & Amies via the following links:

(N.B. gowns ordered from Ede & Ravenscroft for the MA ceremony (only) in February, will be ready for you to collect on the morning of your congregation from Downing Place United Reform Church, Downing Place CB2 3EL. Ryder & Amies will provide you with their own collection point details.

Gowns ordered for any other congregation will be available for collection from a designated collection point in the town centre. Details will be provided to you by Ede & Ravenscroft or Ryder & Amies on submission of your order.

Timetable for the day

Degree Congregation – Thursday 23 July 2026

If you have booked Guest Senate House and Lunch Tickets, these will be available for collection from the Porters’ Lodge from 10.00am on Wednesday 22nd July, until the time of your degree congregation on the Thursday.

Please note it is important you collect your tickets as your guests will need them for entry to the Senate House & Congregation Lunch.

14:00	Assemble in Old Court for gown check
14:15	Procession sets off from Queens'
