Lucia Reisch,  Dr. oec., Inaugural El-Erian Professor of Behavioural Economics and Policy. Joined Queens’ and the University of Cambridge from the Department of Management, Society and Communication at the Copenhagen Business School, Denmark, in 2021.

Research

I am a behavioural economist interested in sustainable markets and development. My main research focus is on behavioural economics, behavioural public policy, sustainable consumption, intercultural consumer behaviour, consumers and digitization, as well as consumer policy. Over the past decades, I have been a principal investigator in several large interdisciplinary EU and Nordic research projects.

As the inaugural El-Erian Professor for Behavioural Economics and Policy at Cambridge Judge Business School, I focus on behavioural insights-based policies for sustainable development in research, teaching, and practice. I often collaborate with policymakers, multinational bodies, and innovative companies worldwide.

Department

I am an “Economics and Policy” Subject Group member at Cambridge Judge Business School.

University

Professor; Director and Founder of the El-Erian Institute for Behavioural Economics and Policy.

Personal interests

Besides academic research, teaching and outreach, I am engaged in policy consultancy, e.g. nine years as a member of the German Council for Sustainable Development, the Ethics Commission for Safe Energy Supply of the German Chancellor, the German Bioeconomy Council and the German Advisory Council for Consumer Affairs, all of which consult with the German federal government. I am honoured to consult with governments and non-governmental organizations in different countries on how to apply behavioural insights to increase citizens’ welfare and foster sustainable development. I work with the OECD, the European Commission, the World Bank, and the UN on sustainable development issues. I also consult innovative businesses on sustainability issues. For the last 25 years, I have been one of the Editors in Chief of the Journal of Consumer Policy (SpringerNature) and a member of the Editorial Board of several academic journals and book series in the field of behavioural public policy and sustainable development.

In 2017, I was appointed an honorary Leibniz Chair, jointly awarded by the German Leibniz Association and the Leibniz Institute of Prevention Research and Epidemiology (BIPS) in Bremen. I am still finalizing a large research project with my former employer, Copenhagen Business School. I am an elected lifelong member of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering.
