Head of Reception Services/Head Porter


The Head Porter has managerial responsibility for the Porters’ Lodge and its staff (including the Visitor/Tourist Liaison team).  The primary functions of the Porters’ Lodge are to perform an excellent “front of house” reception service, maintain the security and safety of the College, its members, staff and visitors, act as principal emergency response and provide an effective and efficient mail delivery service. 

The College is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified person to lead and manage all aspects of the services provided by the Porters’ Lodge.

The successful candidate will have a strong educational background, be passionate about providing exceptional customer care standards, is an inspirational leader who can demonstrate excellent people management skills and has significant experience in senior management.  S/he will be comfortable managing in a complex and diverse environment.

Standard hours of work are 37.5 hours per week working on a rota system (to include weekends and nights).  Additional hours may also be required according to the needs of the business (for example at term commencements, and during the College’s busy conference season). 

Salary will be in the range of £35,000 to £42,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
