Unveiling of Cripps Court inscription

The President and Fellows of Queens’ College welcomed Mr Robert Cripps, son of the late Sir Humphrey Cripps (Hon Fellow) to unveil the new inscription on the building given so generously by the Cripps Foundation. The Latin motto of the Cripps family translates as United as One.

Lord Eatwell (President) spoke of how it is 50 years this year since the idea of a Cripps Court at Queens’ was first mooted between Sir Humphrey and Sir Arthur Armitage, and of how the Court has evolved over time with the Stephen Thomas Memorial Teaching & Learning Centre being added ten years ago. Professor James Diggle (Life Fellow) then delivered sections of the original speech he gave to Sir Humphrey Cripps when the Hall was opened in 1974. The President invited Mr Robert Cripps to cut the ribbon – officially unveiling the Cripps Court – after which Mr Cripps thanked the College for electing him to a Fellow Benefactorship.
