The boating year ends with a bump

Queens' had a mixed experience in last week's May Bumps, with results, according to the Boat Club President, Callum Chivers (2015), "not truly reflecting the hard work and dedication of all involved". However, with a total of nine Queens' boats, the College fielded the highest number of crews on the river, in a thoroughly enjoyable week for all participants.

The final day's racing was cheered on by a crowd of 200 Queens' alumni, family and friends, including Boat Club members from as far back as 1958, with the help of a Pimm's tent, hog roast and strawberries and cream, in a wonderful celebration of Queens' life on the water.

The Boat Club marked the end of the year with a Bumps Supper, attended by nearly 100 members of the club. Callum Chivers, Georgie Holmes (2014) and Peter Stevens (2014), captains of the women's and men's teams respectively, all gave speeches, as did Dr Robin Walker

The Boat Club dinner coincided with a commemorative event held for the triumphant 1968 Boat Crew, the last Queens' team to date to be crowned Head of the River. The crew took to the water again, before attending the Boat Club speeches, and marking the half-century since their victory with a celebratory dinner of their own.
