School visits: Havering & Medway

Hannah Thomson giving a talk to students
Today, 46 school students from two of our target areas, Havering and Medway, visited Queens' College for a day of talks, tours and taster sessions.

The students are in school year 12, come from six different state schools and were identified by their teachers as high-achievening, giving them a realistic chance of making a successful Oxbridge application. They were taken on tours of Queens' led by current students and attended taster sessions. PhD candidatesĀ David Brossault andĀ Maria Khwaja ran sessions on Biochemisty and Sociology and Anthropology of Education respectively, whilst Dr Andrew Thompson (Admissions Tutor, Official Fellow in History) gave a talk on art and art history and Dr Andrew Gee (Official Fellow, Engineering) gave a talk on engineering, including making clocks out of lego!

To round off the day, Widening Participation Assistant Hannah Thomson (2015) spoke about applying to Cambridge University.

This trip from Havering is an annual event and seeks to broaden students' horizons and encourage them to consider applying to Oxbridge.
