Second year HSPS student, Meg Byrom has been awarded an Orwell Society and NUJ Young Journalist’s Award. Her entry, ‘Sam Fender: the canary in the coal mine?’ was announced as the winner in the review category by the Orwell Society earlier this month, following competitive review by a panel of judges which included George Orwell’s son.

The Young Journalist’s Award was created to provide recognition to promising writers in the field of journalism or journalism students aged 30 or under. The award also comes with a monetary prize, with each winner receiving £1,500 and £500 being offered to runners-up.
