Queens' leads at 72nd Steele-Bodger Rugby Match

Queens' members Mike Gibson MBE (1963, Hon Fellow), Jamie Roberts (2015), James Horwill, Flip van der Merwe, Ollie Phillips (2016), Nick Koster (2017), Stuart Henderson (1977), Charlie Amesbury (2016), Archie Smeaton and Rowan Kitt (Fellow) were all in attendance at the 72nd annual Steele-Bodger rugby match held earlier this week, the first match since Micky Steele-Bodger's passing in May 2019.

This year, Queens' alumnus Charlie Amesbury (2016), former captain of the Light Blues, played for the Steele-Bodger XV, against current Queens' students James Horwill, Flip van der Merwe and Archie Smeaton (in the Cambridge University XV). James and Flip are both former international rugby players studing for EMBAs, whilst Archie is a first-year undergraduate student reading Natural Sciences at Queens'.

As it was the first Steele-Bodger match without Micky, a number of Blues made special effort to come to this match, including Queens' alumni and former Cambridge rugby captains Mike Gibson MBE (1963) and Nick Koster (2017). The players' dinner was held afterwards in Old Hall at the College, as is traditional.

James, Flip and Archie will also represent the Light Blues against Oxford in the annual Varsity Match next month, where they will be supported from the stand by numerous Queens' members and alumni.
