Queens' alumni win BAMS essay prizes

Queens' alumni Ned Hercock (2005) and Eleanor Careless (2007) have won first and second prize in the 2018 BAMS essay competition respectively.

BAMS (British Association for Modernist Studies) runs the competition annually. Ned has won £250 worth of books for his essay 'Hard Objects in George Oppen's Discrete Series' while Eleanor's essay 'Muriel Rukeyser and the Security of the Imagination: Poetry and Propaganda in 1940s America’ will also be featured in a forthcoming issue of Modernist Culture. Both Ned and Eleanor studied English at Queens' for their BAs and MPhils.
