QCBC: an exciting end to the summer season

Queens' College Boat Club - W1 at Marlow Regatta

The Marlow Regatta

Despite the uncertainties caused by ongoing COVID restrictions, and the cancellation of the annual May Bumps competition, QCBC had a busy and successful end to the 2021 academic year!

The season began with the Marlow Regatta on Saturday 19th June. This was the first off-Cam race of the season. There were four finals (A, B, C, D) ranked in that order with the fastest crews qualifying for the A-Final. After an excellent race in the time trial, W1 qualified for the C final. The crew maintained a high rate throughout the race. Crossing the line just 0.8 seconds behind Marlow Rowing Club, the W1 team finished in an impressive 3rd place.

June Eights

Due to the cancellation of May Bumps 2021, CUCBC organised an Eights Regatta from Monday 21st June – Thursday 24th June. Queens' W1, M1, M2, W2 and NW1 all participated in the Getting On Race, which is the equivalent of a qualifying race for the annual Lent and May Bumps to select the fastest crews for the lower boat divisions/categories.

The first day of the regatta saw wins for W1, M2 and W2. The second day was equally as successful, with wins for M1, M2 and W2! NW1 also boasted a strong lead over Christ’s NW2 in a friendly race.

QCBC took another three wins on the penultimate day of the regatta. W2, after their third win of the week, were now on track for blades!

Overall, after some fantastic racing across the four days of competition, each crew ended the week with two wins and two losses, apart from W2 with their three wins and one loss!

The Henley Regatta

Another exciting race this season was the Henley Regatta. This was first time that Queens’ W1 had qualified since 2007 and the first time this particular team had rowed at Henley! Congratulations to the W1 team for a fantastic effort this season.
