Many congratulations to Jenna Foale, one of our PhD Engineering students.

Jenna co-authored the paper 'Soot Emission Simulations of a Single Sector Model Combustor Using Incompletely Stirred Reactor Network Modeling which won the best paper award at The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Turbo Expo Technical Conference.

The research was conducted by PhD students Savvas Gkantonas and Jenna, together with fellow co-authors Professor Epaminondas Mastorakos and Dr Andrea Giusti. It was supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and Rolls Royce.

Jenna said: "Great science can be done when you have great collaborators and opportunities. I'd like to thank the ASME Combustion, Fuels and Emissions Committee for selecting our paper out of so many for this prestigious award. I'm very grateful to have been asked to contribute my expertise with kerosene chemical mechanisms with my co-author Dr Savvas Gkantonas in his novel research to make tools for predicting soot emissions from jet engines. Together with Dr Andrea Giusti and Prof Epaminondas Mastorakos, we made an excellent team!"

Jenna is the daughter of Dr Mike Foale, CBE (1975 & Honorary Fellow).
