Huge crowds for the inaugural Queens’ Distinguished Lecture in Law

Yesterday, the College hosted the inaugural Queens’ Distinguished Lecture in Law to a packed-out audience in the Fitzpatrick Hall.

The event was a joint venture between Queens’ and Redress Solutions PLC and was delivered by Baroness Hale of Richmond, Deputy President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. She spoke on “The Right to Live and the Right to Die”. Following her Lecture, Baroness Hale took questions from the engaged audience of students and professionals alike.

In conjunction with the Lecture, Redress Solutions PLC has sponsored two Redress Solutions Prizes for academic excellence in Law, awarded by the Director of Studies in Law, Professor Richard Fentiman, and presented by Baroness Hale to Jack Stewart and Fiona Lin (pictured below).  In addition, Redress Solutions is providing five generous Studentships for Queens’ LLM students. These were awarded at the Dinner which followed the Lecture.

It is intended that this will become an annual event, exposing members of the College, as well as their distinguished guests, to the most advanced thinking on the law. This is becoming increasingly relevant as London reinforces its position as the forum of choice for international commercial litigation and arbitration.

Marius Nasta (1990) LL.M, Chief Executive of Redress Solutions PLC and an alumnus of Queens’ College said “I am proud that my company has associated itself with this series of lectures and is sponsoring the Redress Solutions Prizes for Academic Excellence as well as the Redress Solutions Studentships. Personally, this enables me to give something back to my old College. This series of lectures will add to the immense contribution that Queens’ has made over the centuries to the development of law and to the education of legal academics and practicing lawyers”.
