Gyorgy Denes wins Silvia Breu Teaching Prize in Computer Science
On Sunday 14 May, the winner of the annual Silvia Breu Teaching Prize in Computer Science was announced.
Gyorgy Denes was this year's deserving recipient of the award, following a review of applications by a panel of Queens' Fellows. The announcement was made at the CS Annual Dinner.
Gyorgy commented:
I am genuinely grateful for the recognition. I have supervised various courses for seven years now, and it is always great to receive some positive feedback. I strongly believe that the supervision system we have here in Cambridge is essential, and it contributes greatly to the high quality of teaching.

The College founded the Prize in memory of the late Dr Silvia Breu, who was a well-known and greatly admired teaching associate in computer science at Queens’. The aim of the Prize is to acknowledge and celebrate excellence in undergraduate teaching in computer science.
Each year, Queens’ computer science undergraduates are asked to compose a short list of the most inspiring and effective supervisors who embody teaching excellence. The shortlist is then reviewed by the Fellows in computer science together with a Fellow from another subject to select an overall winner.
Professor Alastair Beresford, Director of Studies in Computer Science and Robin Walker Fellow in Computer Science said:
This year, students wrote in support of many supervisors. As Fellows, we were impressed with the strength of the nominations, with many submissions highlighting the passion, dedication and excellence for teaching clearly displayed by supervisors. Nevertheless, Gyorgy's nomination stood out amongst this strong field.
