College announcement

The College regrets to announce the death of Honorary Fellow Sir Ronald Halstead CBE, M.A., D.Sc.h.c. (Reading & Lancaster), Hon.F.I.F.S.T., F.C.M.I., F.Inst.M., F.R.S.A., F.R.S.C.

Sir Ronald attended Lancaster Royal Grammar School. He came up to Queens' in 1945 to read Natural Sciences. He won a half-Blue for Athletics. In 1985, he was elected to an Honorary Fellowship.

He worked for most of his career at the Beecham group, becoming Chairman and Chief Executive in 1984. Sir Ronald was awarded a CBE for services to the food industry in 1976, was knighted in 1985. He was a loyal support of Queens’.

Sir Ronald passed last Friday, 18 June 2021.

We are conveying our deepest condolences to the family and will be flying our flag at half-mast.
