Friends of Queens' Music

Funding from the Friends of Queens' Music is available to any current undergraduate or graduate student member of Queens', or any Musical Society at Queens’. We are very grateful to our members and donors for their ongoing support of this Fund.

For many of our students, this support enables them to expand their musical abilities as they get to perform in recitals all around Cambridge, and opens up musical horizions as they are able to purchase scores they would never have considered playing. This fund is a path into qualifying at a professional level for our students in and beyond Queens'. One previous scholar was able to qualify professionally in both organ and piano (FRCO and FTCL). FRCO is the benchmark for ‘professional expertise’ in all elements of organ playing, and FTCL is equivalent to a final postgraduate recital at a conservatoire.

In the past, students have received funding from the Friends of Queens' Music:

  • To cover the costs of private musical tuition, including examination entrance fees
  • To purchase, repair or maintain musical instruments or cases, including electric pianos
  • To purchase scores
  • To cover the costs of going on tours with other musical societies, such as CUMS orchestras
  • To cover travel costs related to musical pursuits and accommodation costs, for instance to stay in College during the vacation to take part in a performance
  • To attend musical workshops, courses and summer schools.

Students may apply for an award using this form
