Welcome to Queens’ College.
If you are bringing your own computer, for use in your room and around College, then this resource will help you get started.
The College estate is covered by UniofCam and Eduroam, the University Computing Services Wireless system.
A Raven password will be required by College Students, Staff and Fellows to use the UniofCam service.
For conferences and guests, temporary “tickets” are available from the Conference Office or the Porters Lodge.
A new Guest wifi service is now available here, https://help.uis.cam.ac.uk/service/wifi
Eduroam configuration instructions, for multiple devices, for College Students, Staff and Fellows can be found here; https://help.uis.cam.ac.uk/service/wi-fi
The College uses a self registration system called ForeScout
Before proceeding with the self registration, you are required to have an Anit-Virus program installed and working on your computer.
Your IP address will be issued automatically by ForeScout, once you have authenticated yourself using Raven.
Connect an Ethernet cable between your computer and the Ethernet socket on the wall in your College room.
To get to the registration screen, open a web browser and try to go to a web site, your attempt will be intercepted by ForeScout and your registration process will begin.
Queens’ College Computer Room in the Essex building has been retired.
For Undergraduates, a Computer Room is located on the main site in the Solarium, which has 4 PC’s.
There is another Computer Room located at Owlstone Croft in A Block. This facility is also part of the Computing Service UMD. This room has 4 PC’s.
All the computers are networked to the Cambridge University Data Network (and thereby to JANET, the UK academic backbone, and the world-wide Internet) at ethernet speeds.
All Queens’ students are registered to use these machines.
There is a single MFD in the Armitage Room, the Solarium and the Computer Room at Owlstone Croft.
An MFD is also available in the Library foyer.
The MFD is chargeable, and is part of the Common Balance scheme run by Desktop Services, part of the University Computing Service. Accounts will need to be credited before you can print to the Colour printers using the eCredit system.
The College will be supplying the paper, so if the paper runs out over the weekend, the Porters Lodge have keys.
The College employs three full-time Computer Officers who are on-hand to answer any problems or queries. There is a growing library of documentation relating to the use of College machines, including the Queens’ Computer Room FAQ – a guide to using the facilities at Queens’.
The Computer Room is part of the University UMD (University Managed Desktop)
