Queens' Library update and book returns

Library staff have been working hard to ensure that, even though the library is closed, our services remain open. See below for some quick updates on continuing services and how to return your books.

Book loans

All loans for continuing students have been extended to the start of Michaelmas Term - 7th October. However:

  • Students returning to college over the summer to collect possessions are requested to take that opportunity to return all Queens’ books they no longer need to the box provided in the porters’ lodge. (We will also be happy to forward any book returns to Departmental/Faculty Libraries and the UL).
  • Students graduating in Summer 2020 are requested to return all Queens’ books at their earliest convenience. Your books will not have been renewed so you will continue to get automated overdue notices - please ignore these and be reassured that you will not be fined. The University Library is currently devising a scheme to facilitate the return of Cambridge library books. We will contact graduating students with details once they are finalised. In the meantime, those that can are asked to return their books by leaving them in the box in the porters’ lodge. We are aware that the need to return books could present a challenge, particularly for those not resident in the UK. If you have questions or concerns please contact us.

Queens’ Library services this term and over the vacation period

Although the library is still closed library staff are keen to support you with accessing books, electronic resources and any other information needs you may have. In particular, we are happy to:

  • arrange access to ebooks.
  • post books from the WML and book suppliers.
  • email scans from WML books (copyright restrictions allow for one chapter or 5% of any single book).
  • leave WML books at the porters’ lodge for collection.
  • answer general enquiries.

For all enquiries please contact us via library@queens.cam.ac.uk. For updates on WML services please follow us on Facebook and for further details about how to use library resources while you are away from Cambridge check our webpage and the relevant University Library webpages.

Stay safe and best of luck with all exams and assessments.
