Undergraduate College Prizes and Awards

Prizes are awarded annually to students who achieve academic excellence in their most recent examinations.  Additionally, Special Prizes are awarded in other categories - please refer to the information below for further details.

Year prizes for academic distinction

Joshua King - for outstanding distinction in examinations by a third or final year undergraduate (prize amount £125)
Hughes - for outstanding distinction in examinations by a second year undergraduate (prize amount £100)
Venn - for outstanding distinction in examinations by a first year undergraduate (prize amount £75)

Arts Prizes (prize amount £100)

President's Prize-Architecture - for distinction in Architecture
President's Prize-Archaeology and Anthropology - for distinction in Archaeology and Anthropology
President's Prize-ASNC - for distinction in Anglo Saxon, Norse and Celtic
Harold Bailey Prize (Asian and Middle Eastern Studies) - for distinction is Asian Studies
Chris Hills Memorial Prize (Asian and Middle Eastern Studies) - for distinction in Oriental Studies
The President's Prize (Asian and Middle Eastern Studies) - awarded to a 4th year undergraduate for distinction in AMES
Penny White Prize (Classics or Mathematics) - awarded to a final year undergraduate
The J. Leslie Firth Prize (Classics) (established 2017) - awarded to a Classicist with a preference for Part IB, who performs exceptionally well in Tripos exams
Northam Memorial Prize (Economics) - for the best First in Part II Economics
President's Prize-Education - for distinction in Education
President's Prize-English - for distinction in English
Brendan Prize (History) - awarded for the best (First Class) performance by a Queens' student in Paper 30 of Part II of the Historical Tripos
Mathias Prize (History) (established 2017) - awarded to a Historian with a preference for Part II who performs exceptionally well in Tripos exams
Morgan Prize (History) - for distinction in History
Phillips Prize (History) - for distinction in History
President's Prize-History of Art - for distinction in the subject
The Gamble-Scott Prize (HSPS) (established 2017)- awarded to a first-year for academic excellence in Human, Social and Political Sciences
President's Prize-Land Economy - for distinction in the subject
Lucas-Smith Memorial Prize (Law) - awarded to the best student of the current academic year in Law
Redress Solutions Prize (Law) (£300) - awarded for excellence in exams or for overall academic excellence throughout the courses.  Prize can be awarded to undergraduates, LLM and MCL students
A B Cook Prize (Modern Languages) - for distinction in Modern Languages, English or History
The Kenneth Waghorne Prize (Modern Languages) (established 2017) - For academic excellence in Modern Languages
President's Prize-Linguistics - for distinction in Linguistics
President's Prize-Management Studies - for distinction in the subject
President's Prize-Music - for distinction in the subject
President's Prize-Philosophy - for distinction in the subject
President's Prize-PBS - for distinction in Psychological and Behavioural Sciences
Clayton Prize (Theology) - for distinction in Theology and Religious Studies

Max Bull Prize (Anatomy) - for distinction in Anatomy
President's Prize-Biology - for distinction in the subject
President's Prize-Chemical Engineering - for distinction in the subject
Wheatley Prize (Chemistry) - awarded to a first-year undergraduate for distinction in Chemistry
Paul W Davies Prize (Chemistry) - awarded to an undergraduate in any year for distinction in Chemistry
President's Prize-Computer Science - for distinction in Computer Science
President's Prize-Computer Science - awarded to a 4th year undergraduate for distinction in Computer Science
Engineering Alumni Prize - for distinction in Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering
Lawrence Peel Prize (Engineering) - awarded to a first-year Engineering undergraduate for academic distinction and an all-round contribution to College life
Prigmore Prize (Engineering) - for distinction in Engineering
The James & Jean Bennett Prize - for distinction in Engineering.  Only final year undergraduate students are eligible
Laing O'Rourke Prize (Construction Engineering) - The President's Prize for the best performance by a Laing O'Rourke Masters in Construction Engineering
President's Prize-Geography - for distinction in the subject
President's Prize-Manufacturing Engineering - for distinction in the subject
Braithwaite Prize (Mathematics) - for distinction in any Tripos in which Mathematics is examined
Colton Prize (Mathematics) - for distinction in Mathematics
Openshaw Prize (Mathematics) - awarded for general excellence with preference to a second-year undergraduate studying Mathematics, either in the Mathematical Tripos or another Tripos
President's Prize-Mathematics - awarded to a 4th year undergraduate for distinction in the subject
Melsome Prize (Medicine) - awarded to a graduating Medical student
Alison Roper Prize (Natural Sciences) - all round award for excellence in Natural Sciences awarded to a student in any year
President's Prize-Natural Sciences - awarded to a 4th year undergraduate for distinction in the subject
Chalmers Prize (Physics) - for best first of the current academic year in Physics
The David Ward Prize (Physics) (established 2017) - awarded to a first-year student for academic excellence
Henry Mosseri Prize (Physiology, Biochemistry or Applied Biology) - for distinction in the subject
President's Prize-Veterinary Medicine - for distinction in the subject

Special Prizes (prize amount £100)

The Beament Prize - for outstanding musical performance
The Bibby Prize - awarded to an undergraduate or undergraduates who have made an outstanding contribution to either the welfare of the College Library, or to the general communal life of the College
The Chase Prize - for Greek Testament
The Dajani Prize - for academic distinction in any field wherein the student's studies have been relevant to the promotion of a better understanding and awareness of the historical, cultural and economic relationships between Great Britain and the Arab world
The Henry Frederick Farr Poetry Prize - awarded to a graduate or undergraduate student
The Sam Hadfield Poetry Prize - awarded to an undergraduate student
The Ryle Reading Prize - for reading in College chapel
The Tyro Music Prize - awarded to the best or most improved musician amongst the Graduate or Undergraduate students at Queens' who take part in the LT competition
