Queens' College Boat Club

Queens' College Boat Club (QCBC) is one of the largest Clubs on the river and provides opportunities for novices, seniors and alumni to get involved in rowing/coxing throughout the year.

There are three major on-Cam races (one in each of the Michaelmas, Lent and Easter Terms) that our crews compete in: The Fairbairn Cup, Lent Bumps, and May Bumps. The Lent and May Bumps are a unique four-day event where Colleges line up one behind the other along the river and begin rowing at the sound of a cannon. The aim of each crew is to catch-up and "bump" the crew ahead and, simultaneously, avoid being "bumped" by the crew behind. The start order is dependent on the previous day's results and is carried over each year. If a crew moves up four places on consecutive days, they achieve "blades". Our men's 1st crew "bladed" in May Bumps 2022 and Lent Bumps 2023, our women's 1st crew bladed in May Bumps 2023, and our women's 3rd crews have bladed in May Bumps for three consecutive campaigns (2019, 2022, and 2023).

The College recently launched a campaign to raise funds for a new boat for the women's 1st crew.

We are delighted to announce that this project was completed in August 2023, providing the Boat Club with £45,000 for the purchase of a new Filippi. We are incredibly grateful to the 22 QCBC alumni who came forward to support this campaign, with special thanks to Alex Stout (1995) whose pledge to match all gifts received until we hit a total of £20,000 proved key in garnering wider support. We look forward to inviting our donors to the Boat Naming Ceremony in due course.

If you're an incoming student, there is always a "Boatie Squash" during Freshers' week and QCBC will have a stall at the Queens' Freshers' Fair that you can check out!

Boar's Head is our alumni group that allows QCBC members to remain active in rowing/coxing after graduation. For more information on staying involved, please see the contact links below.

Boathouse facilities (including a gymnasium) are available for use by members of QCBC.
