New documentary from Iqbal Malhotra (1977): Subhash Chandra Bose- the Mystery

On July 18th, Queens' alumnus Iqbal Malhotra (1977) premiered his documentary, 'Subhash Chandra Bose- the Mystery', on the Discovery Channel.

‘Subhash Chandra Bose- the Mystery’centres around the mysterious life, and alleged death, of Subhash Chandra Bose - one of the most celebrated leaders of the Indian freedom struggle.

The documentary addresses myriad questions surrounding his death. Bose officially succumbed to injuries from a plane crash in Taipei in 1945, however, persistent theories following his death placed him in Russia after the war and even living in India as a wandering monk. New grainy footage emerged in 2014, via the hacking group Anonymous, claiming to show Bose at the peace signing in Tashkent, Russia, between India and Pakistan in 1966. The documentary follows this new lead as well as newly declassified files and forensic evidence, tracing his life from student days at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, onwards through the 30s and war years, incarceration, assumed identities and various 'sightings' throughout the late 20th century to present day Russia and the FSB Headquarters.

Also found in the documentary: shots of Queens' and a mention of Queens' alumnus, British Intelligence Officer Colonel Hugh Toye (1936), titled ‘Bose Hunter’; Colonel Toye was tasked with tracking Subhash Chandra Bose from 1943 onwards, from Cambridge to Saigon.
