In Focus: Valentina Futoryanova - competing for a place in the Boat Race

PhD student, Valentina Futoryanova (2001/2013), has been selected to train with the Blue Boat squad over the new year in Spain.

She received a Lightweight Blue last year and has converted to the heavyweight squad during the course of this academic year. She therefore has a chance of rowing in the inaugural Women’s Boat Race on the Tideway on April 11, 2015. She is the oldest trialist and trains most days in Ely.

Valentina read Engineering at Queens' as an undergraduate and worked in industry for the last 10 years, as well as doing an MBA at Durham University before coming back to Queens' last year to do a PhD in Mechanical Sciences.

Queens' students William Warr, Matt Chipping and Ian Middleton are competing for places in the Men’s Blue Boat.

Watch this space: we will keep updating on the progress of our Queens' hopefuls as we draw closer to the Boat Race.
