Centenarian member visits Queens'

A.A. "Peter" Wood, who matriculated in 1934, visited College yesterday with his family and was hosted by the Alumni Office.

Peter turned 100 in May and was accompanied by wife, Shirley. Other family members turned up as a surprise with Peter commenting "extraordinary...but it's not my funeral!"

He was an Entrance Scholar in Natural Sciences and was President of the College Chess Club and played in the Varsity Chess match. Peter served in the Admiralty's Science Department in World War Two and then worked as a Tax Inspector.

Peter had rooms in Dockett and Old Court during his three years at Queens'. The Fisher Building opened whilst he was here and his tutor was Len Potts. He can still recite the Latin grace said before formal dinners.
