A new Erasmus discovery by two Queens' Fellows

A newly discovered poem attributed to Erasmus goes on display at Cambridge University Library as part of the exhibition "His royal favour: The books that made the Library".

Late last year Dr Richard Rex discovered a previously unknown poem by Erasmus (matr. ca. 1511, and resident in Queens' College, off and on, 1511-14) written by hand in the margins of an early copy of his published poems which is part of the University Library's 'Royal Collection'.

The book and the newly discovered poem have been featured in the exhibition which has just opened at the University Library to commemorate the tercentenary of King George I's donation of this large collection of books to Cambridge University.

As a supplement to the exhibition at the library itself, the UL produced a video interview with Dr David Butterfield and Dr Richard Rex discussing this find.
