Research

My doctoral research focussed on 18th and 19th-century poetry, philosophy, and criticism, and dealt with issues in the history of aesthetics, particularly the relationships between poetry and academic disciplines, poetry and labour, and poetry and matters of fact. My current research deals with 17th and 18th-century treatments of early verse. My research interests also include poetics; the history of disciplines; classical reception and the history of classical scholarship; Marxism and critical theory; and the relationship between literature and philosophy.
