Professor Christopher Bickerton

My research interests span the disciplines of international relations, comparative European politics and European studies. My published work includes a co-edited volume of sovereignty in contemporary international relations, a book on the European Union's foreign policy, and most recently a prize-winning book on European integration as a process of state transformation. I am currently working on the topic of state transformation and its role in shaping international orders. I am also working on two collaborative projects. One investigates the relationship between populism and technocracy in contemporary political life. A second is on the nature of post-Maastricht European integration and its implications for our understanding of states, institutions and interests in the process of European integration. This second project has resulted in an edited book published with Oxford University Press in 2015, under the title of The New Inter-governmentalism: States and Supranational Actors in the Post-Maastricht Period.
