Queens' awards one Machin Studentship in any field in the sciences each year.
The Studentship is intended to provide fees-only support up to a maximum value of £1,500 p.a., and are tenable for up to three years (subject to satisfactory progress). The competition is open to all new graduate students, intending to commence a Ph.D., from 1 October. Holders must become members of the College and have indicated Queens' College as their first preference in their original application to the Board of Graduate Studies.
Students continuing from an MPhil (or other prior graduate qualification) to a PhD will become eligible for the award provided they indicated Queens' College as their first preference in their original application to the Board of Graduate Studies for that prior qualification. The award of a Studentship is conditional upon being accepted by the relevant University Department (via the Board of Graduate Studies).
The closing date for completed applications is 31 May.
Applications should be made in writing (there is no application form) and must include a full c.v., and a statement of their proposed research project (maximum four pages). Two letters of recommendation should be sent separately to reach the College by the closing date.
