The Chapel was built 1888-91 to the design of G.F. Bodley, architect. The building was erected by, and all wood carving was done by, Rattee & Kett. The organ was by J.J. Binns.
Stained glass by Hardman 1860-79 from the south windows of the old Chapel was moved into the three east-most south windows. The central of the three Hardman windows was a memorial to Joshua King, President, who died in 1857. The east and north windows were filled with new stained glass by Kempe.
Bodley designed a highly decorated reredos behind the altar, into which he incorporated a late 15th century triptych which had been previously on display in the Long Gallery. There are depictions of saints on the reverse of the triptych panels which can only be seen on this web site, as the originals are fixed in their frames and unviewable.
The two figures in niches on either side of the east window represent St Margaret and St Bernard, and date from the 1930s.
The chapel was redecorated and restored under the direction of S.E. Dykes Bower in 1952.
