Chapel and Erasmus Building

The Chapel was built 1888-91 to the design of G.F. Bodley, architect. Stained glass by Hardman 1860-79 from the south windows of the old Chapel was moved into the three right-most south windows seen here. The east and north windows were filled with new stained glass by Kempe. The organ is by J.J. Binns.

Behind the Walnut Tree can be seen Erasmus Building, built 1959-60 to the design of Basil Spence, architect. It is unlike many Cambridge college buildings in being designed on a corridor principle, fed by only two staircases. To keep the staircase lettering in sequence with those of Friars Building (adjacent to Erasmus Building behing the Chapel), it was allocated staircase letters K and L, which had previously been used for Essex and Cloister staircases. It accommodates 44 students and two Fellows. In 1997, all 43 student rooms on K staircase were provided with en-suite showers and toilets.
