Lyon Court viewed from Queens' Green

Lyon Court was completed in 1989, as Phase 3 of the Cripps Court development.

On the left, the northern building of Lyon Court houses three squash courts, a multi-gym, and the Bowett Room, a multi-purpose room designed with table tennis in mind, but also used for meetings and teaching. On the right is the Fitzpatrick Hall, a multi-purpose hall catering for badminton, volley-ball, drama, cinema, and discos (known locally as bops).

In the middle can be seen the western elevation of Cripps Court itself, with the JCR Bar on the ground floor looking out onto Lyon Court.

The pillars and steps into Lyon Court were intended to frame a new entrance into College from the west, complete with a bridge across the ditch from Queens' Green. Although the materials of Lyon Court match those of Cripps Court, the pitched roofs were intended to echo the roof line of Fisher Building next door.

We thank the Queens' Ents Committee for leaving the van parked so prominently (this is called irony, folks).
