Queens' Choir comprises Choral Scholars, recruited through the Inter-collegiate Choral Award scheme (all voice parts), and 'volunteers', recruited through auditions which take place within Queens' throughout the year (the main bulk being in October). Volunteers are offered Volunteer Choral Awards, subject to funding. There is high demand for a place in Queens' choir, and, as with other Cambridge choirs, successful applicants are expected to make the normal weekly commitment (shown below), plus any extra services or rehearsals which occasionally occur. Members of the choir receive a free, three-course meal after evensong on Sunday and Wednesday, and subsidised singing tuition by professionals who visit Cambridge to teach alongside their performing careers.
Since the choir is drawn from singers from across the university, Volunteer Choral Awards are not all necessarily made to students of Queens' College, although the majority of past Choral Award-holders have been from Queens'. Choral Scholarships, recruited through the Inter-collegiate system will be held by Queens' undergraduates. Choral Scholarships are tenable for three years, and volunteers are normally expected to commit to the Choir for a year at a time, with the option of returning (without further audition) in successive years.
The regular term-time choir for this year is mainly recruited early in the academic year, but the organ scholars welcome new singers at all times of the year, and often seek to recruit extra singers for deputising, or to join the choir for its summer tour. If you are interested in joining Queens' Choir, or would like more information, please contact the Director of Music.

The Choir is expected to support the Music Society (The St Margaret Society) Chorus, which rehearses on Thursday nights during term. This provides an excellent opportunity to sing large-scale works which are not performed in Chapel services. Members of the Choir are often called upon to sing solo or semi-chorus roles in the twice-yearly public concerts.
